A very good morning to our Principal, Mr. Keith, to our teachers and fellow students!
On behalf of our sports team, I’d like to talk a little about the challenges of sports and the fulfilment it brings
It may be hard to believe now, especially for those of you who know me, that I was never a promising athlete. And like many of us do, during sports days, I too, used to only participate casually.
However, 2008 was a turning point on my road to success in sports, when Mr. Shariq, our PE coach, encouraged me to participate in the athletic meet. This was the very first time I attended any such thing and it was only after repeated losses that I obtained my first medal, and that too, a bronze one.
I realised that my half-hearted efforts, weren’t going to do me any good and I made the decision to work really hard, embarking on training and a carefully-planned schedule. Well, after that, there was no looking back.
Today, because I listened to my teachers and believed what they said, I dared to believe that I could. And with hard work, determination and perseverance against all the odds, I kept running the race with my eye on the finish line. Today I am delighted to share with you that commitment and all the aforesaid, have brought me 49 medals and counting, and may I say that most of them are gold and silver!
My fellow students, whether you’re academically inclined, casually inclined in sports or aesthetically inclined, regular participation in sports and training is the answer.
It equips you with the necessary skills for the adult world, where the playing field is not often level and it is with hard work and determination, that get you ahead and achieve your dreams.
You learn the value of team spirit and the benefits of social interaction, including the glory that comes with victory.
